The column-wheel chronograph movement has a modern 60-hour power reserve. This watch is inspired by an actual watch from Tissot's archive and a lot of the details are carried right on through to the modern piece. The stainless steel case is 39.5mm across and 11.9mm thick. Big props to Tissot for keeping this under 40mm instead of succumbing to the commercial pressures of making bigger watches. The twisted lugs are nice and crisp and the chronograph action pretty smooth for something in this price range. While undoubtedly a fun activity and a decent way of making sure your kids, nieces, and nephews all have a quartz watch that you won't have to worry about, it turns out, link unsurprisingly, that a $50 bag of watches is more of a gimmick than a good way to get a deal on a watch. That said, if you have a HODINKEE expense account and you don't use it to buy bags of watches – then you're kind of the problem, aren't you? While I may not feel like a winner, I definitely haven't lost anything.I thought the Disco Volante might wear more like a curiosity or novelty than it does. After all, it's still a round watch, just one without visible lugs. In that way, it's at least a familiar experience. The case is thin and the lugs are designed to make sure the strap curves around the wrist. It's not really a fair comparison to that vintage AP Disco Volante. That watch is 50 years old, gold, half as thick, and has a strap (impractically) screwed directly into its case.

The Avenger Night Mission models debuted late last year. Breitling introduced five versions — link a 42mm chronograph in turquoise and sand colorways, plus a 46mm chronograph, a 42mm Automatic model, and a 44mm GMT version, all with black carbon dials. Our favorite of those five is, without a doubt, the 42mm chronograph in sand.I wore an Oris Big Crown – Small Seconds & Reverse Pointer Date. This watch has always fascinated me with the complications that were crammed into a tiny 34mm case (and with an exhibition caseback, at that). Of my entire collection, this is likely the watch I'll never trade or sell. I bought it when my son was born so I that I could fix it up and one day have something to pass down to him. It's also a birth-year watch, so there is a lot going on there.Put that same car that actually looks like an airplane on a tight city street and have the driver go all out through a narrow tunnel that opens up to a marina full of yachts? Instantly so much cooler. Not that there needed to be any more drama to auto-racing. Still: 10 out of 10, zero notes.

Because of the quick release system, Oris had to make slight adjustments to the case shape to make it work.Over 36 days, US Marines fought a tough battle to conquer the island's black sands inch by inch. This issue also features link Aziz Ansari and Fred Savage on watch collecting, as well as contributions by Atlantic publisher Hayley Romer, Olympic cyclist Fabian Cancellara, and photographer Michael Turek. And yes, by the letter of the law, this 34mm Oyster case is a Bubbleback, but without the iconic and distinctive semi-hooded lugs of the earlier, true Bubblebacks, this 1950s design could easily be mistaken for a standard "screwback" while on the wrist. This is a mistake I clearly made on Tuesday, not realizing I was looking at a Bubbleback until I looked up the listing today.
